A Different Spring

Last month in Mid-March I had the opportunity to travel to McDowell State Park outside Mesa Arizona. It was so very nice to feel the warmth of the sun and see the green vegetation. It was as if Spring had come a week early for me. When I left my home if was cold and snowy and when I returned it was the same but I had been rejuvenated. I didn’t see all the things in Arizona that make me think of Spring like tulips, daffodils, pansies or dew on the grass in the morning. I didn’t smell fresh cut grass. I didn’t even feel that slight breeze with just a hint of warmth. I saw big beautiful cactus with glorious blooms. I saw the red Mesas stretched along the skyline. I saw the most beautiful sunsets of yellow, orange, pink and purple. I heard the coyotes howl at night. I felt that summer hot sun on my back and I got a sunburn. I was so inspired by my early and unusual Spring that I have created some new embroidery designs with a Southwest motif and lots of cactus. I have a confession to make….I live close to the mountains but I love the desert. My husband says that is because you always want what you don’t have. Maybe so. I hope you will enjoy making my new embroidery patterns.

What Does Winter Smell Like?

As I was looking forward to the New Year I wanted to make some cute bowl fillers to place in my entry. I wanted them to bring a smile and happiness into the home. I also wanted them to smell like Winter. I wondered what does Winter smell like? My mind was in a whirl. There is the so cold and clear you can’t smell anything, then there is the all I can smell is the exhaust fumes and dirty air, if you like in a bowl like I do and you get winter inversions. Then there is the smell of warm soup and homemade bread or a fire in the fireplace. Maybe Vick’s Vapo Rug because you are sick. I guess like most seasons it isn’t just one smell it is many. I chose Wintergreen. It is fresh,cool and invigorating. Makes me think of happiness and energy. Just what one needs in the middle of Winter. Happy Stitching.

And Here We Are Again

My mind is keeping up at night again with so many ideas I can’t keep them straight. I actually really love it when I do this. Am I tired in the morning? You bet, but I am happy because my brain is being creative and productive. I made a goal this year to find the positive in all things. I think that I have succeeded maybe 25% of the time but I am so much happier and more creative. Can you imagine the happiness and creativity I can have if I increase that percentage. I am so pleased with the designs I have created this year and can’t wait to design many more new and different things in the future. I hope that everyone finds Happiness during the Holiday Season.

Double, Double Toil and Trouble

Autumn is my favorite time of year. I love the cool crisp mornings, the beautiful colors, the crunch of the leaves and those wonderful smells. The caramel apples, candy corn, and warm soup with corn bread. Wearing a warm sweater and carving pumpkins. I love Fall. I have been traveling but working hard to get some new designs out. I created the Witches Potion Bottles from the Song of the Witches by William Shakespeare. I could hear Double, double toil and trouble in my head so I googled the words and found out it was written by Shakespeare, I had no idea. It is such a fun poem so creating the penny rug was easy. I hope you all have a wonderful Autumn and Happy Halloween.

Song of the Witches

Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and caldron bubble.
Fillet of fenny snake,
In the caldron boil and bake;
Eye of newt and toe of frog,
Wool of bat and tongue of dog,
Adder’s fork and blind-worm sting,
Lizard’s leg and howlet’s wing,
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.

Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and caldron bubble.
Cool it with a baboon’s blood,
Then the charm is firm and good.

Oh The Places I’ve Been

I love to travel! Sometimes I have a hard time leaving home for the travel but once I get gone I’m good. I want to see just about everywhere there is to go and see. I can’t believe how many places I have been. My parents were not big travelers and so I didn’t go far growing up. My goal is to see all the continents and hit all 50 states. I am 15 states and 3 continents short but I still have time to get there. I have seen so many beautiful places and things that I ask why I live where I live, and the answer was family. I like where I live because it is where I grew up and where my family is. It is home and that is the best place of all. Now off to create my travel inspired art.

Something New For A Pick-Me-Up

I have been designing a lot of Penny Rugs that past year or so. I have had a couple other things but I was getting a little tired. I was introduced to a sweet little free pattern with instructions on youtube. Wow, what more could I want. Cute, Quick and Easy. Well, cute and easy they are but I’m not so sure about quick. I had ever so much fun though. Picking out the color coordinating fabrics and buttons. I made 6 different designs and planned to sell some in my Etsy shop but something happened…. I loved them all so much I had a hard time putting them out for sale. I did manage to get 3 of the 6 out there. What is this little gem that brought me so much happiness. An Accordion style pouch purse. They are kind of small and I know it doesn’t sound like anything grand but the stuff you can put in them. So practical and very cute. Check them out.

Wow. Where did the time go?

I am slacking again. Here it is May already. No matter I guess since I’m not sure how many people actually read my blog and see my patterns. It seems like it was just cold and snowing a month ago and cool with rain a few days ago. Well, actually I guess that is true. I have many ideas for Penny Rugs and need to get them down on paper before I forget them. That does happen often. I get a great idea and before I can get to making it, I lose the idea. I wish I understood my brain a little better. I am looking forward to some travel and inspiration for some great ideas. Now, just need to remember to write them down and draw them out.

I’m a Slacker but, I’m also a Finisher

If you haven’t noticed I’m a slacker. I haven’t written a new post since September. But, I have been extremely busy finishing and designing new things.
I belong to three different clubs. A quilt club, a wool club and an embroidery club. Well, over the course of the year I have felt very overwhelmed. I did finish all my projects but some with much stress. So… for the new year I dropped one of my clubs. The quilt club. I do like to piece quilts but I would rather do wool applique or embroidery. I find much more joy in those two things. I have done a couple new Penny Rug designs and I am currently working on a seasonal wool applique wall hanging. I needed something different from Penny Rugs. I had a friend ask me if I could design something for her and she would pay. Wow what an honor. I did and the ideas just kept coming. It took me back to my first post about how once you start creating, the creativity just continues to grow and get bigger. Sometimes to my own frustration because there just isn’t enough time. So I am excited to finish the project I have started and excited to start a couple new projects in my clubs. It is a brand New Year with 361 days left. Wahoo!

Absolutely Positively

Here we are on the verge of Autumn with Halloween and Thanksgiving. Yikes, Christmas isn’t far behind. I stared to feel panicked today. I need to create some new designs. I was excited but scared because I think I have creators block, if there is such a thing. I tell myself I just need to relax and find the zen and it will happen, something will drop into my head.
Recently I have started to always seek and find the positive. I can’t believe what a difference it has made in all aspects of my life. Why haven’t I done this before? Hopefully I will get inspiration soon. No, I will get inspiration soon. Oh, I just can’t wait to see what comes. Happy Fall. Enjoy the beautiful colors, the cooler temperatures and the crunch of the leaves.

The Thrill of it All

A few weeks ago my friend and I participated in the Utah Quilt Shop Hop. It was 15 stores and about 150 miles. We accomplished this feat in 2 days. We started at 9:00am and finished at 6:00pm each day.

Every store was wonderful and had beautiful quilts and projects, but those that I loved the most were those that not only catered to quilting but had wools, felts and threads as well. I saw many wonderful patterns and quickly realized that there are many talented people out there with great designs. I, of course purchased a couple of patterns that I just couldn’t resist. I also found myself inspired with so many ideas of my own. Sometimes it is just hard finding the time to develop my ideas into designs and patterns.

When I do find the quiet time to design and draw up a pattern it brings such contentment and peace to my soul. After I design and make a pattern the best and most fun part begins. I get to create the finished design. Oh how I love to cut the felts and wools and stitch the many different stitches with my beautiful flosses. I hope they have fabric and wool and thread and floss in heaven.
